Forgive me for not knowing the technical terms for the body but when I use
live squid in the canyons off New Jersey, I hook them as bar back as I can.
I rarely have one come off the hook except when a tuna or Mahi inhales it.

I recently returned from Catalina Island where I bought live squid from
a
commercial
fishing boat just outside Avalon Bay. I tried hooking them through the
mantle,
but these wriggly things would often get off the hook, and I never caught
anything
on them.

What is the proper way to bait a hook with live squid and present it in
the
water?
I usually use 2/O circle hooks.

Regards,
Cliff
